TRANSPARENCY & COMPLIANCE

Clear Answers.

National Rate Group is an independent Core Transport Agent procurement specialist. We believe every natural gas customer deserves unambiguous, factual answers regarding delivery jurisdictions, billing mechanics, and emergency protocols.

Notice: National Rate Group is not SoCalGas, an electric utility, or a government agency. Southern California Gas Company continues to maintain all pipelines, meters, and emergency response teams.

Who do I call if I smell gas, suspect a leak, or experience an emergency?

Immediately contact Southern California Gas Company at 1-800-427-2200 or call 911. SoCalGas is your regulated utility and retains exclusive 24/7 operational responsibility for emergency response, pipeline safety, leak detection, and physical infrastructure repairs across their service territory.

Is National Rate Group affiliated with or part of SoCalGas?

No. National Rate Group is an independent procurement agency authorized to enroll customers in third-party natural gas supply options through licensed Core Transport Agents (CTAs). We are not owned, operated by, or affiliated with Southern California Gas Company or any state regulatory agency.

Will I receive two separate monthly gas bills?

No. You will continue to receive a single, consolidated monthly bill issued directly by SoCalGas. Your delivery and transmission fees remain payable to SoCalGas, while the commodity gas supply charges will simply reflect the competitive rate procured through your designated CTA supplier.

What is the Core Transport Agent (CTA) program and who authorizes it?

The Core Transport Agent (CTA) program is established under California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) regulations. It allows residential and commercial gas consumers to purchase their natural gas commodity from competitive independent suppliers while continuing to rely on their local utility for safe, physical distribution.

Will my gas meter, pipes, or physical delivery service change?

No physical changes occur to your home or business. There is no disruption to your gas flow, no new equipment or meters installed, and no change to the physical delivery lines. The natural gas molecules are delivered through the exact same utility infrastructure.

How do I verify the official identity of a field representative at my door?

All authorized field representatives carry an official photo ID badge displaying their full name, company credentials, representative ID number, and a scannable QR code. You can instantly verify their active status using our official online Rep Verification Tool or by calling support.

Who sets delivery charges versus gas commodity charges?

Delivery, pipeline maintenance, and transmission rates are strictly established and regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for SoCalGas. The commodity charge represents the actual cost of the natural gas fuel procured under your contractual agreement with the CTA supplier.

What is the policy if I move or decide to return to utility commodity supply?

If you relocate within the service territory, your enrollment can transfer to your new address. If you choose to return to standard utility procurement, enrollment adjustments are processed in accordance with your supplier agreement terms without any disruption to your physical gas service.
